Stop drinking the Haterade!
Jason Schmidt was so nails last night. Having struck out 13 going into the ninth inning, he found himself in big trouble when runners reached 2nd and 3rd with no outs. He then proceeded to strike out the next three batters to close out the game and earn a win for Giants, 2-1. In doing so, he set a San Francisco Giants record with 16 strikeouts overtaking Gaylord Perry and tying a Giants franchise record set by Christy Mathewson a century ago.
A local talk show host on flagship station, KNBR, downplayed the feat saying he dominated a pseudo-Triple A Florida Marlins team. "It's not like he was pitching against the Yankees or the Red Sox etc." I believe was one of his quotes.
Tough crowd.
What's a guy to do? You take them as they come, correct? Years from now, nobody's going to remember who he pitched against. I believe this talk show host made these comments in an attempt to generate some controversy with the listeners. It worked, as his comments were still being talked about the next morning. There's always somebody who has to be the contrarian, a hater, in jive parlance.
The biggest hater is the guy on the morning PTI wannabe show. We'll call him Mr. Ball-Less. I swear Mr. Ball-Less picks up the morning rags every day, sees which way the journalistic winds are blowing and then opines the other way. I suppose he believes that stating the obvious is sooo beyond him. He's such a punk.
Oh, and he's such a 90's Dallas Cowboys honk. Ehh. Great teams, no doubt, but this guy has the biggest crush on Troy Aikman and bows before the altar of Jimmy Johnson.
Where's the journalistic integrity? Apparently, non-existent for this jocksniff.
