I got your award right here

Last day of school for all in the SBPSD. Went to the Genius' school this morning. There was a 7th grade assembly and awards were to be given to select students. Apparently, the Genius received a letter stating he was actually receiving an award. I find out later (exactly the night before the assembly) that the letter was intended for the parents. The Genius feels that it's no big deal to get some crummy award, so if I hadn't asked I would've never known.
As it turns out, it seems several students felt that it was no big deal getting some crummy award as the parent turnout was quite small. But that's neither nor there. The principal gave her opening statements, introduced student officers, Pledge of Allegiance and on with the show.
The principal for her part is a tough as nails, no-nonsense gal. I like that. Students getting way too disruptive were shown the door, no ifs, and, or buts. Reminded of me judo master last night.
Anyway, awards were given out for various subjects. Because the Genius is a hard-working guy who expects only the best from himself, straight A's throughout the year (with the the exception of Spanish in the last semester, but that's another story) I expectantly figured the Genius would get a Math Award, Science maybe. Instead, the Genius got an Award of Achievement in Physical Education(?). Don't get me wrong, P.E. is an important subject, especially with the persecution of anything that might cause obesity. It looks to me, however, the staff at Parkside Intermediate threw the Genius a bone. Granted, I'm not going to be the most objective observer in matters regarding the Genius; neither are his friends who acknowledge that the Genius was more deserving at the subjects that other students received awards for. It became apparent to me that one of the criteria for receving an award would be one per student. The exception was one kid who would be moving during the summer and not coming back to the school. However, does the criteria for receiving an award include holding influence within the school? I hope not.
As an unobjective observer in all matters regarding the Genius, I say throw someone else a bone and give the Genius his due props. God bless the Genius' heart. He took his award in stride and did not say word one about deserving more, not unlike his somewhat bitter dad. In perspective, this will be a fly speck in the big picture that is The Life of the Genius. There'll be other awards and achievements.
Now, what am I gonna about these guys during summer?
